Field Sites
(scroll down for additional examples)

Figure 1.1. Forest field site (mixed Sugar Maple/American Beech forest) approximately 30 m x 30 m in size. A much larger area of this forest could be used as a field site if it were appropriate to include multiple forest types within the same site.

Figure 1.2. An open meadow field site approximately 100 m x 200 m in size (only half of the field site is visible).

Figure 1.3. A wetland field site roughly 3 hectares in size (1 hectare or ha = 100 m x 100 m).

Figure 1.4. Arial photo showing several dozen hectares of forest. A field site this large might be appropriate for surveying bird or mammal communities or for investigating ecosystem processes.
