  • First, make sure that your data are entered appropriately: your independent variable should be entered in a column to the left of your dependent variable. The screenshot below shows an example for the fish diversity data.
  • To make your scatterplot, first click and drag to highlight the two columns and column headings with your data.
  • Next go to the Insert tab, choose the Chart type Scatter, and click on the Chart with data points but no lines (circled in red below). You should see a graph like the one in the screenshot below.
  • IMPORTANT: Use these directions to adjust the format of your graph - your graph is not very meaningful until you’ve added proper formatting, such as axis labels, etc.



  • Once your graph has been formatted and labeled, it should look something like this:
